Documents Required

If you are a tourist or a visitor in the UAE, you’ll need a copy of your Passport and a copy of the Visa along with an International Driving License to rent out a car. The minimum driving age in the UAE is 25 years. There are also several countries whose license is accepted instead of international driving license.

Coverage in the Insurance Policy

You should check with the car rental company whether any kind of loss or damage to the car is covered in the insurance policy. In case of an accident, it can save you from a lot of financial loss. Also, make sure that you inspect the car for any kind of scratches or dents before you get into it.

Vehicle Accident & Breakdown Policy

Always check the health of the car you are renting out. If the vehicle breaks down, it is best to inform the car rental company immediately. If your car meets an accident, the car rental company will charge you and deduct the damages from your security deposit. In the case of an accident, make sure you inform the police.

Charges and Security Deposit

When you rent a car, you will need to pay a security deposit upfront. An advanced deposit ensures safety for the car rental company. In case the client ends up acquiring a driving fine, the car rental company can easily deduct it from their security deposit.

Salik charge (toll charge) either needs to be paid in advance by the client or the car rental company will deduct it from your security deposit. Most car rental companies accept credit cards for the deposit.

Terms Conditions Rental Agreement

Read the Terms and Conditions of the Rental Agreement

It is always best to read the important terms in the car rental agreement. There are conditions attached to renting out a car in the UAE. For example, you cannot take a rented car beyond the borders and the insurance covers drivers only within the UAE, so make sure you follow the terms.

If you notice any external damages like scratches, etc. then it is a good idea to take pictures of the vehicle and report them to the rental cars company to clear yourself from any financial stress later on.
